Finding Your Creative Self
By Lori Landis
August 2009
Did you lose your creativity because of just living life or because someone told you that you didn’t have any talent? Or you didn’t color within the lines or couldn’t sing or write. Maybe just maybe your creativity isn’t lost but just covered up. Are you looking but can’t figure out what is bugging you in the back of your mind? Maybe your creativity is trying to come to the surface.
That is what happened to me when I went back to college and found an elective in drawing. I didn’t think I was an artist, not even close. I drew stick figures. Now I’m an award winning artist with collectors from coast to coast. Of course it didn’t happen overnight. I took many, many classes and found my niche in Zen abstract painting. That is my journey. What is yours?
I offer one solution, a workshop called “Finding Your Creative Self”. I teach using mandalas as a tool which are healing circles like the Tibetan monks and Navajos use. On Sept.12th from 10:15 -12:45 join like minded people in a safe liberating and fun place. It is held at Art Space 7127 E. 6th Ave. Scottsdale. Cost is $50.oo and all materials are provided. It is limited seating so call 602-576-0406 or e-mail Lori@Landisart.com to reserve a spot.
Art is a safe bet...by Lori Landis
In these days when stocks are up and down, is art a safe investment? You can bet your life on it!!
Without art surrounding us we become cultureless. What I mean is that like nature, art nurtures us on an individual basis. Without art, we become less real and more robotic going through the motions.
Do you have 'art' on your walls or just something to match your sofa? Do you actually 'look' at your art and SEE it? Does it bring you joy or peace or some other emotion?
I was at a party last night and saw a beautiful painting over the fireplace. The hostess told me that her mother had been sick and had stayed with her. The mother would be on the sofa and looked at the painting every day. She said it gave her such peace and made her feel better. That is a great investment!
We go through our routine life with our emotions dulled, then something makes us aware all over again. It may be wonderful like a sunset (we have great sunsets in Arizona) or it may be horrific. We all have good and bad experiences, some worse, but we all need uplifting.
Art brings you out of yourself to a bigger world. Not all art uplifts, it may make you angry or confuse you. But it does invoke a response in you. The quest of the visual artist is to connect with you on a deeper level. So is art a good investment? What do you think?
